What happened?

bctl crashed attempting to install the "Bluefin WSL Experience. Attached file is a copy of the terminal contents after the crash.

Steps to reproduce

1. Install bluefinctl from source in a mamba virtual environment.
2. Activate the environment.
3. bctl devmode
4. Install a bunch of things. I did the VMs, Podman Desktop, Incus and a couple others before trying the WSL one and they all worked.

Assuming this gets working, is there a way I can specify the Ubuntu version? I want to see if I can use this WSL to manage an NVIDIA Jetson and they require Ubuntu 24.04.

Hi @znmeb,

This crash was already fixed upstream in bluefinctl. The traceback in your report is raw subprocess output, ANSI codes and brackets included, being fed straight into Rich markup labels, which blows up with a MarkupError. The fixes are 1ae3f204 and 83dc56f7, and I confirmed both shipped in v0.4.1 on June 30.

Can you update to bluefinctl v0.4.1 or later and try the WSL install again? If it goes through I'll close this out. If updating through brew gives you trouble, that's a separate bug we're working in projectbluefin/common#898, let me know and I'll point you at a workaround.

Can I test this on regular Fedora-based Bluefin? I don't have a Dakota install at the moment.

Looks like I need the workaround on bluefin-dx-nvidia-open:latest - bluefinctl is 0.4.0,

Latest test: on a more or less fresh Dakota install:

1. Clone the repo https://github.com/projectbluefin/bluefinctl.git
2. cd into it and do

python3 -m venv .venv
pip3 install -e .

Then open bctl and try to install the Bluefin WSL Experience

It downloaded a bunch of stuff - if there's a logfile somewhere I didn't see it. But it failed after quite some time with

I didn't realize VSCode was in Homebrew - I thought we got it from a Flatpak. In any even, it still doesn't install. But somewhere on my hard driver there's a "Lima" machine of Ubuntu 26.04 server, I think.

gh, fzf, ripgrep and neovim were already there; everything else probably came from the WSL Experience.
