CABLE committee meeting, 23rd Feb, 2018 11am-12pm

  1. CMIP6-MOSRS branch https://trac.nci.org.au/svn/cable/branches/Share/CMIP6-MOSRS
  • single-site benchmarking against trunk (default configuration) (see attached pdf)
  • Discussion

    • dealing with param files, name-list options in standardised single-site testing

    • put run_compare.sh on wiki as mandatory test script for developers? Agree in this. Martin to tidy and put on wiki.

    • single-site testing with biogeochemistry, veg structural dynamics switched on In progress to update at next meeting

  • AMIP testing of GW-Haverd2013-orevap configuration (see attached slides) To discuss: moving from interim trunk to trunk. Bernard noted that if CMIP6-MOSRS development was likely going to end up in the trunk, then as a single trunk checkin, we’d run the risk of losing the development history within the CMIP6-MOSRS branch if it got deleted after being merged into the trunk. So Gab's suggestion was to merge the CMIP6-MOSRS branch into the trunk early (i.e. asap) so that future development before CMIP6 release would at least have a history in the trunk. The alternative of course is making sure that we never delete the CMIP6-MOSRS branch. Discuss this next time.

    • Jhan's closed CMIP6-MOSRS tickets #186 (discuss value of umin?), #184, #185, #187, #147, #179 Martin: set up gotcha page, suggest lower umin (0.1-0.5) may be more appropriate for offline.

    • #173 casa-restart file names. Action: YPW to look at the ticket.

    • #172, #171 climate variables in casa dump file now within if clause No action required.

    • #167 default climate_from_zero (see #145), update cable.nml to https://trac.nci.org.au/svn/cable/branches/Share/CABLE-AUX/offline/cable.nml.CMIP6-bios3 (not yet working in run_compare.sh) Action: recommendations for first users: check out tag rather than trunk? Action: scripts for user-spinup. Revisit availability on Restart.

  3. Revision (time-permitting). Benchmarking of branches: practical vs aspirational, with reference to attached pdf. YPW suggests dedicated meeting on benchmarking post CMIP6. Martin: suggest Gab make CABLEdevelopment.pdf as a google doc , to make available for comment.

  4. CABLE road-map. (YPW) Consultation phase prior to June. Not specifically on science. YPW to give a ppt pres to wider community, gather feedback and approach indviduals to write sub-sections. Road-map to be delivered by end of year. CABLE in JULES. Martin: CABLE v3 post CMIP6? Move to github?

  5. Next CABLE community conference. Video con. Middle of year? Discuss next time? CABLE science meeting.

  6. Time for March CABLE committee meeting March 7, 14? Doodle poll to come.

  7. Other business. Action: 15 mins for Bernard's concerns
