A boy who has only ever been property wakes alone on Saqarro — heat, rot, fever, venom, and monster-peoples who call it home. Humans who land here die. He does not.
Taken in by the Vorth, he rises from stray to king of the wild things and finds the first family he has ever known. Then his own kind comes across the water — slavers, chains, a blood-trade — and takes everything.
At the bottom of the pit, the old blood-force in his veins stirs for the first time. The Red. And across the water, something colder is already coming.

The "Ice" of the title is the Cold — the bloodless thing that hunts his line — not a climate. It is seeded in the prologue and pays off across all three books.
