MetalDuck captures a game window or your full display and shows it with frame interpolation. That means a 30 fps game can look like 60 fps or more, with less visible stutter.
It uses a transparent overlay, so the original game stays where it is. You keep control of the game, and MetalDuck draws the smoother video on top.
Use it when you want:
- smoother motion in older games
- a cleaner look for windowed games
- a simple setup with no game file changes
- a tool that runs on the device, not in the cloud
MetalDuck is made for Windows users who want a direct setup. For best results, use:
- Windows 11 or Windows 10, 64-bit
- A modern NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU
- At least 8 GB of RAM
- A recent version of Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
- A display that supports your chosen output rate
For the smoothest experience:
- close heavy apps before you start
- use windowed or borderless mode in the game
- start with a lower output target if your system feels slow
Visit the release page here:
Download MetalDuck from GitHub Releases
On that page, look for the latest release and download the Windows build. If the release has a setup file or app file, download and run that file.
- Open the release page link above.
- Find the latest version at the top of the page.
- Download the Windows file for MetalDuck.
- If the file comes in a .zip archive, right-click it and choose Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Double-click the app or installer file to start MetalDuck.
- If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes.
- Follow the on-screen steps to finish setup.
If you see more than one file, use the one marked for Windows. If one file says x64 or 64-bit, that is the usual choice for most PCs.
- Start your game first.
- Open MetalDuck.
- Pick the game window or your full screen display.
- Choose an output rate, such as 60 fps.
- Start the capture.
- Switch back to your game and play as normal.
MetalDuck places a clear overlay on top of the game. You should still be able to click and play in the same window beneath it.
If you are not sure where to start, use these settings:
- Capture mode: window
- Output rate: 60 fps
- Processing resolution: auto or native
- Overlay: on
- Scaling: default
If the image looks rough or the app feels slow:
- lower the output rate
- choose a smaller processing resolution
- close other video apps
- try borderless window mode in the game
If the picture looks delayed:
- make sure the game is running at a steady frame rate
- reduce background load
- keep the game and MetalDuck on the same monitor if possible
MetalDuck can work with a game window or a full display.
Use this when:
- you want to capture one game only
- the game runs in a normal window
- you want less chance of grabbing the wrong app
Use this when:
- the game uses full screen
- the game changes size often
- you want to capture everything on one monitor
If you are new, start with window mode. It is easier to control.
MetalDuck uses your device to process the image in real time. It reads the game frames, creates new frames between them, and shows the result as a smooth overlay.
In plain terms:
- it watches the game image
- it fills in missing motion
- it shows the new frames over the game
This helps older games feel smoother without changing the game itself.
MetalDuck can lower the processing resolution if your device cannot handle the chosen one.
Try this:
- Select a lower processing resolution.
- Keep the output rate at 60 fps.
- Test again.
- If needed, lower both the input and output load.
A lower setting often works better on laptops and older PCs.
MetalDuck works best with:
- older PC games
- emulators
- strategy games
- side-scrollers
- single-window games
- borderless games
It may not feel right for:
- fast-paced competitive games
- games with frequent fullscreen changes
- apps that already use heavy post-processing
MetalDuck runs on your computer. It does not need a cloud account to do the frame work. That makes setup simple and keeps the process local to your device.
Try these steps:
- Right-click the app and choose Run as administrator.
- Check that your Windows version is up to date.
- Reboot your PC and try again.
- Re-download the release file if the download looks broken.
Try:
- switching from full screen to borderless window
- selecting the correct window again
- closing overlays from other apps
- restarting MetalDuck after the game opens
Try:
- lowering the target fps
- using a smaller processing resolution
- closing web browsers and video apps
- updating your GPU driver
- testing on a smaller monitor or lower display scale
Try:
- using a steadier in-game frame rate
- turning off other overlays
- keeping one capture source at a time
- restarting the game and MetalDuck
Before your first test, make sure you have:
- downloaded the latest Windows release
- extracted the files if needed
- opened the game first
- chosen the right window or display
- picked 60 fps as the first test
- kept other overlays closed
Use this setup for the first run:
- a simple game window
- borderless mode
- 60 fps output
- default scaling
- no extra overlays
If that works, you can try higher settings after.
